Julian Newman Elementary School
The new Julian Newman Elementary School (HEART Academy) in Athens, Alabama, is a state-of-the-art 85,000-square-foot facility. The campus is engineered for a capacity of up to 750 students, featuring a specialized layout of 32 classrooms, including three dedicated special education suites and six shared collaborative spaces. The design of this campus includes two dedicated storm shelter areas, two gymnasiums, a modern media center, and specialized laboratories for STEM, music, and art.
Elkmont Elementary School
The new Elkmont Elementary School is a 110,000-square-foot, 48-classroom facility serving 750 Pre-K–5th grade students. The campus features a high-occupancy storm shelter, secure site layout, STEM and digital media labs, and a railroad-inspired design reflecting Elkmont’s history.
Widening and access improvements on SR-127
The AL Highway 127 roadway improvements in front of Elkmont Elementary School span approximately 0.5 miles, widening the corridor to add turn lanes and improve traffic flow and school bus queuing between Bob Jones Parkway and Upper Fort Hampton Road.
